GymTracker Privacy Policy
In short: SotApps receives none of your data. Everything you log is stored on your phone. There is no GymTracker server, no user accounts, no ads, no analytics and no third-party trackers.
The one exception, and only if you switch it on: the cloud backup, which is a paid feature. If you enable it, your data is uploaded to your own Google Drive, into a private folder that only this app can read. Not even we can see it. Until you enable it, the app sends nothing anywhere.
1. Who is responsible
This app is developed and published by SotApps, an individual developer based in Spain. You can get in touch at sotapps.support@gmail.com.
This is worth stating plainly, because it shapes everything below: SotApps never receives any of your data. There is no GymTracker server, no database of ours that you appear in, and no record of your activity in our hands. The relationship is the same as with a calculator: we give you the program, and what you do with it stays on your device.
2. What the app stores, and where
GymTracker keeps all of its information in the app's private storage on your device, in a local database that only the app itself can read. This is what you may end up entering:
| Type of data | What it covers | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Workouts | Your routine, training days, exercises, and the sets you complete with reps, weight, RIR, notes and session duration. | On your device only |
| Body data | Sex, age, height, body-weight history and your weekly training goal. You enter these yourself and they are optional: the app works without them. | On your device only |
| Mood | How you felt after a workout, if you choose to record it. | On your device only |
| Photos | Images you pick from your gallery to illustrate an exercise. They are copied into the app's private storage. | On your device only |
| Preferences | Language, simple or advanced mode, rest times, reminders and similar settings. | On your device only |
| Crash reports | If the app closes unexpectedly, the technical stack trace is written to a local file. It is not sent to anyone unless you share it manually from Settings. | On your device only |
Some of this (body weight, age, sex, physical activity) counts as health and fitness information. That is precisely why the app is built so that it never leaves your phone.
3. What is NOT collected
- No sign-up and no account: we never ask for a name, an email address or a password.
- No location data.
- No access to your contacts, calendar, microphone or camera.
- No advertising or device identifiers.
- No ads, no usage analytics, no third-party measurement tools.
- No tracking across apps or websites.
4. Who your data is shared with
Nobody. Your data is not shared, sold, disclosed or transferred to other countries, for the simple reason that it never leaves your device. The app bundles no third-party SDK that collects information.
5. Permissions the app requests, and why
| Permission | What it is for |
|---|---|
INTERNET |
Used solely for the backup to your own Google Drive, which is optional and paid. If you do not enable it, the app never uses this permission. No other GymTracker feature connects to the internet. |
POST_NOTIFICATIONS |
To tell you your rest between sets is over and, if you enable it, to remind you to weigh in. You can deny it: the app still works, you just lose those alerts. |
VIBRATE |
A short buzz when the rest timer ends, so you notice without looking at the screen. |
FOREGROUND_SERVICE |
To keep the rest timer running when you leave the app (to change the music, say). Without it, Android would freeze the countdown. |
WAKE_LOCK, RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE |
Added automatically by the system library that schedules reminders (Google's WorkManager). The network-state one does not allow internet access: it could only check whether a connection exists, and the app does not even hold the permission that using one would require. |
Exercise photos go through the Android photo picker, which lets you hand over one specific image without granting access to your whole gallery.
6. Backups
The backup you make yourself
From Settings you can export all your data to a JSON file, photos included. You save that file, wherever you choose, through the system file picker. From then on the file is yours and its safekeeping depends on where you put it: leave it in a cloud-synced folder and that cloud provider will hold a copy. The app never sends it anywhere on its own.
The backup to your Google Drive (paid feature)
With the Premium subscription you can turn on the cloud backup. It is worth being precise about what happens then, because it is the only thing that leaves your phone:
- The backup is stored in your own Google Drive account, not on a server of ours. SotApps has no way to access it, even if we wanted to.
- It is stored in
appDataFolder, a hidden, app-private folder. It does not appear among your Drive files and no other app can read it. - The only Drive permission requested is
drive.appdata: see, create and delete the app's own configuration data. The app cannot see the rest of your Drive. - The upload is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Once in Drive, your data is governed by Google's terms and privacy policy, because it sits in your account.
- You can delete the backup at any time from within the app, or revoke access from your Google Account (drive.google.com → Settings → Manage apps).
- If automatic backup is on, it uploads when you finish a workout. You can switch it off in Settings and keep using the manual backup.
If you do not enable this feature, none of the above happens and the app sends no data anywhere.
Android's automatic backup
Android offers apps the option of uploading a copy of their data to Google Drive. In GymTracker that upload is deliberately switched off: the database does not travel to Drive. What is allowed is device-to-device transfer, the cable copy you use when setting up a new phone, because there the data goes straight from your old handset to the new one without passing through any server.
7. How long your data is kept
For as long as you want. Your data lives on your device while the app is installed. You can delete workouts, sets, weigh-ins and exercises one by one inside the app, and uninstalling GymTracker erases everything it had stored, photos included. No copy remains in our hands, because there never was one.
8. Your rights
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) grants you rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability. In this app you exercise them directly, without asking anyone:
- Access and portability: export your data to a readable JSON file from Settings.
- Rectification: edit any set, exercise, weigh-in or profile field inside the app.
- Erasure: delete whichever records you like, or uninstall the app to remove everything.
We cannot act on an access or erasure request about your personal data for the simplest of reasons: we hold none. If you would still like to ask us something about privacy, write to sotapps.support@gmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority; in Spain that is the AEPD (aepd.es).
9. Children
GymTracker is not directed at children under 13, and it does not knowingly collect data from anyone of any age. It is a general-audience workout logging app.
10. Security
Data is held in the app's private storage, which Android isolates from every other installed app. Since no data is transmitted, there is no traffic to intercept and no server to breach. Do note that the backup file you export is not encrypted, so that you can read and reuse it yourself: keep it somewhere you trust.
11. Changes to this policy
If a future version of the app changed how data is handled, this page would be updated before that version shipped, with a new date at the top. Meaningful changes would also be called out in the update notes on Google Play.
12. Contact
